How To Find Money In Your Budget For Charity

"I would love to give, but there are so many worthy charities out there that I can not decide." "The rich are able to afford to give to charity." I'm not rich. " "We should take care of those in need in our own country before we give to other countries." All are common excuses (or even reasons) for not giving up a little bit of what we have to help others who need. Most of us feel bad for those with less than us, and want to help, but can not see their way to finding funds within their budgets to reach out. Yet, each of us in North America, regardless of our imports, have the capacity to "discover" methods by which we can assist those people who are less fortunate than we may be. Yes, even the poorest of us can do so, and definitely the wealthy can redirect money to others, if we choose.

Recently, I visited Ocho Rios, Jamaica. My wife and I took none of the guided tours, ate at none of the tourist attractions, bought nothing from cruise ship-sponsored kiosks. Instead, we walked two miles back through the town center, beyond the acceptable tourist spots, through the local farmers market, behind the preparation areas hidden behind the pallets of local foods, among the local garden and "plantation" areas, and into the residences bordering the market. From there, we were able to see the contrast between the tarpaulin-roofed homes to the mansions of Mick Jagger and other "rich and famous" homeowners. It was overwhelming. But how could we, with only a hundred dollars or so, make any difference? And what right did I have to act so voyeuristically, peering into the desperate lives of these people as if they were zoo animals on display?

This private dissection served a purpose: it made me think, "how can I help?" I came up with several solutions.

First, I write for a living. That day, I began a new manuscript, calling on the images and experiences that day in Jamaica. I will be publishing it within the year, and every penny of revenues will be directed to Ocho Rios. If I were to simply hand over the cash to a relief agency, much of it might not make it into the hands of those in need. I expect to earn only a modest amount from this book. I know a couple from Jamaica who will take the money I earn each year, proceed to the farmers market, and discretely distribute money to several of the vendors. Every penny. What difference will it make? For a brief period, those families will benefit. And there is one solution, for each of us who cruise or take vacations in countries like Honduras, Belize, Jamaica, etc. Take half of the money that you had intended to spend on souvenirs, tours and local trips for yourself, and give it away discretely. Not willing to part with fifty percent? How about 10%? Any amount will help immediately.

Currently, I am involved in setting up a charitable housing project for low-income families in my home town. Habitat buildings homes for those with need, as well. These are worthwhile ventures. But, how about homes built for those with means, wealth? As an illustration, Family A plans on having a custom-built home constructed with a budget of $ 400,000. Two choices ca be made here that will generate a significant amount of charitable money. First, add 10% to the budget, to be donated to the charitable cause fund base. Or, insure that the costs be reduced by 10%, and donate that money to the cause. Now, locate tradesmen that are willing to donate one week of their time, free, to the construction of the home. Get them to set the fee that they would charge, and that money gets donated to the helping pot. Approach local lumberyards, and insist that they donate 10% of their costs to the charity. Be sure that the finances are transparent, so that everyone who has contributed can see that the money is going where it was committed. No one is out of pocket. Everyone has done their duty to help others. And you, the homeowner, has more than a "green" home. You have a home with a heart, of which you can be proud!

Donating time is one of the easiest ways to give to the world around you, and is as valuable as any money tossed into the pot. Use your own unique skills to make a difference.

How about our daily budgets? Start by monitoring, for six months, your food budget, your entertainment budget, your housing and clothing budget. Now, commit to trimming 10% of any or all of those budgets, and donating the amount to a charity for only two months of the year. It makes a difference quickly, and the "leaving out" of your budget diet will improve the health of your conscience.

How do we cut housing costs? Many utilities and local governments offer tips on how to conserve energy. Follow these guidelines, and part with only half of your savings. Any grants and rebates available can be similarly forwarded to charity, without cost to you.

How about clothes? I have a system of cycling my clothes to cut costs. My clothes start off as "going out on the town" wear. As they age, they become casual wear. Soon, they are working wear for doing household chores. Finally, they become rags, or are donated to thrift shops or recycling depots.

The food budget is the easiest in which to cut costs. One day a week, substitute high-quality foods for lower-cost items. Make every second alcoholic beverage a lower-cost item than you will normally drink (it may also lead to drinking less. Wonderful, is not it?). Make and buy meal items in bulk. Typically, you save between 6-14% in this manner. There are dozens of other strategies. But do not just cut costs and keep the savings. Be generous to others.

Lastly, a simple change in attitude will help you find an abundance of resources to share. Instead of looking at giving as an option, and as a task, look at it as an opportunity to play a more involved role in the world. Like your cup of coffee, embracing the world is addictive. Unlike tobacco, it is healthy and invigorating. It is not your duty to help others. It is your pleasure! Look different, not at the world, but at yourself, and how you see the world will change. Make a difference in yourself, so that you can make a difference in the world.

A Brief History Of The Bucket

The bucket has been a part of human history for thousands of years. Thought to originate from the word "buc", which meant pitcher in Old English, the word first came into use in the 13th century, and continues to be a part of our ever evolving language, from slang to computer terminology.

From early childhood - the miniature bucket and spade, enjoyed in a sand pit or at the seaside, to the end of human life when people euphemistically "kick the bucket", this essential item is part of daily life and language, used in every part of the world.

Ancient buckets

The earliest depictions of these useful objects are found on carvings dating from around 3200 BC, which show the Pharaoh Narmer with a servant carrying a bucket. Assyro-Babylonian carvings have gods and genies with small buckets, containing lustral (holy) water in one hand and a pine cone for sprinkling in the other. Ancient Olmec carvings in Mexico also show priests with small buckets.

Greek artefacts

The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York has a beautifully painted Greek terracotta bucket (situla) dating from 350 BC. These buckets were used for decanting, cooling and serving wine. The museum also has very rare one made of glass with silver handles, which is most unusual, as metal situlas were far more common.

Roman fire fighters

The Vigiles, modelled on Alexandrian fire fighters, became known as the "little bucket fellows" (Spartoli), or the bucket brigades. The buckets they used were made of rope sealed with pitch. Human "bucket chains" continued to be used by firefigters, and are still used by rescuers of earthquake victims to this day.

Medieval Europe

In northern European countries, buckets were made from metal, wood and leather. Wooden buckets were made by coopers with staves or rope handles. Apart from their manifold domestic uses: milking, drawing water from wells, sanitation and building, they were also used in war machines like catapults as an early form of germ warfare, used for hurling waste, dead and diseased human body parts and animals over the fortification walls of towns, castles and keeps.

Galvanized iron buckets

Patented by Stanislas Sorel in 1837, sturdy and rustproof galvanised buckets rapidly replaced leather and wooden buckets. Metal buckets with different compartments and removable cups, were manufactured for use as lunch containers. Enameled lunch buckets known as gamelles and graniteware containers with lids continued to be made up to the last century. The basic metal bucket was further adapted for a variety of uses including coal scuttles, poultry feeders and drinkers, mop buckets and digger buckets.

The plastic bucket

Cheap, light, multi-coloured plastic buckets first became available in 1967, in a variety of shapes and sizes. They were rapidly adopted by the food industry for the sale of ice-cream, confectionery, take-away chicken and other foodstuffs. Plastic buckets are used to sell cleaning products, animal feeds, fertilisers, toys, nails, paper clips and countless other items.Their continued use seems to be assured, regardless of modern advances and inventions.

Guide to Building Custom Gaming Computers

Getting all the right components to play your favorite games and fit in your budget - usually that is hard to do but not impossible with this guide. There is a lot of hardware on the market to choose from, but we will give you all the info you need so you'll not get lost!

Before we get started, you will have to answer a few questions:
1. What is your budget, how much are you willing to spend?
2. What games are you going to play - Shooters, Strategies, RPG, Flight Simulators?
3. What is the size of the monitor you've got, is it 17-19 ", 20-22" or 24 "and above?

Budget - that is the ultimate limiting point of your purchase - do not have more than $ 700? Then you are limited to basic gaming capabilities and lower resolutions. Can you shell out one about $ 1000? You can get descent machine to play any game with at least medium settings on 20-22 "monitor. that you will not need any upgrades next 2-4 years to be on top of the gaming!

Games You Play - if it's going to be only "World of Warcraft" - you can spend about $ 999 and be sure that it will be enough to play it with high settings on any monitor. If you want to be able to run Shooters like Crysis or Far Cry 2 on High or Highest - be prepared to spend $ 1500 and up, of course you can play those games on $ 1k machine with Medium settings, but it's up to you. Generally 3D Shooters require more power from your computer, same as flight simulators. Strategies and online RPG usually need less.

Monitor - if you are limited to 17 "or 19" monitor, you will play in low-medium resolutions and do not need to spend too much on PC. If you have 20 "or 22" monitor then you will want to play at 1680x1050 resolution, and it will put some stress on your computer, make sure that you select at least GT 240 video card to be comfortable at this resolution. If you have 24 "monitor or bigger, then you will need some serious firepower inside your PC, look for high-end video cards like Nvidia GTS 250 or ATI 5850, get CrossFire or SLI to be able to crank all settings to HIGHEST.
Most important choices are: CPU and Video Card. These two components have most influence on your gaming experience.

CPU - If you want to spend less than one thousand dollars than you should look at AMD Athlon II and Intel Dual Core processors, they have good value in lower segment, cheaper ones are AMD Athlon II X2 and X4 or Intel E6500 or i3 530 that will give up to 50% more performance closer to $ 1K, if you want to spend around $ 1K - look at Phenom X3 or X4 or similar, Intel i5, all can be overclocked over 3.0Ghz without sweat if you have good CPU cooler, and at that frequency it "kicks some ass" for the money it costs. For budgets over $ 1000- $ 1500 check out Intel i5 Quad - excellent Quad Core that can be also overclocked over 3.0Ghz with good cooler, more and more games are optimized for quads, so you will see the difference! New Intel Core i7 might be expensive but they offer the best performance on the market right now!

Video Card - be careful there, serious gamers do not look at GeForce 210 or ATI 4650 cards - they are good for low budget, but you will see HUGE performance increase if you get at least ATI 5670 or 9800GT. If you want high resolution then check out more expensive video cards - GTS 250 and ATI 5750 and 5770! For higher end better pick ATI 5850 or 5870, these two will let you set HIGH settings in all games! For most demanding gamers - CrossFire and SLI systems to play like a pro!

CPU Cooler - do not underestimate it !!!!! If you select stock cooler you will get high temperatures, lots of noise and no overclock (Free speed boost). Do you think that spending extra $ 30 on a good cooler is too much to drop temps about 15'C for more stable operation, not hear any noise and jump-start your CPU to 3.6Ghz instead of stock 2.8Ghz? That is way too much value to not to upgrade CPU cooler. Money you spend here give the most feedback for every $ 1.

Power Supply - Very important if you planning on upgrading video card or any other components. If you upgrade video card you should select better power supply to accommodate increased power requirements. For example GT 240 or Radeon 5670 will work with most regular PSU, but adding second card in SLI or CrossFire will require at least 600W SLI ready PSU. You will not make mistake by getting better power supply, your computer will always benefit from more reliable and consistent power it needs inder heavy loads when you play games!

Memory - important component that goes right after CPU and Cooler and Video Card. Basically, as long as you get at least 4Gb DDR2-800 you are good to go. You will see incremental performance increases if you upgrade to DDR3 memory. Newer DDR3 memory with frequencies from 1333Mhz to 1800Mhz will help on high end machines and will not be a bottleneck. 6Gb RAM is a standard for i7 / X58 systems.

Motherboard - pretty simple, more money you spend here more features you are going to get as well as some speed bump. For example AMD 790x will have FireWire but AMD 770 might not. Intel X58 has 3 PCi-e slots for video cards, but H55 will have only one or 2 PCI-e 16x / 8x for videocards. Some motherboards come with integrated video, while others are designed for discrete videocards only.

Hard Drive - most gamers do not need more than 500Gb or 640Gb SATA2 HDD. Some will even be good with just 320Gb. But if you want significant storage - get 750Gb or more. WD Raptor and VelociRaptors have faster spinning speed (10000RPM vs regular 7200RPM) and therefore work 25% or more faster. SSD technology is still in the developments phase and does not offer much benefit over VelociRaptor drives and they tend to be overly expensive.

Fans, Cooling & Fans - Heat is the worst computer's enemy and all these upgrades help reduce heat by moving air more effectively inside of case and out of it, cooling important components like CPU, Video Card, Motherboard and memory. Cheap upgrades that can make huge difference. Plus better cabling will look cool if you have clear side window!

Case - if you care only about it's look, then get what ever you like. If you are concerned with cooling capabilities, then select Antec 300, Antec 900, Thermaltake, CM Scout. If you do not want to hear any noise from your PC check these cases: Antec P180 / P183, Antec 300, Cooler Master Centurion, Thermaltake Element. When you spend more on the case you get more features, better quality and better cooling.
Windows 7 - most expected operating system of the past, considering Vista's poor performance, Windows 7 is everything that everyone wants - fast, reliable, easy to use, compatible with most of the old software and hardware. Windows XP came to "the end of life" along with Vista.

We hope that you will be able to select your new gaming computer without problems.

How To Fix The 1304 Error - Working Office Installation 1304 Error Fix

The 1304 error is a typical Windows error which is caused by your computer not being able to correctly "write" to a specific file on your system. Whenever you install a program onto your PC, 100's of files & settings are going to be placed onto your computer in order to help the software to run. The issue you're seeing is that one, or more, of the files your PC requires to install are not writeable - leading your system to stop the installation. To fix this error, you first need to ensure that you have all the correct permissions for your computer, and then that you're able to repair any of the potential problems that Windows may have.

The 1304 error will typically show in this format:

  • Error 1304. Error writing to the file File_name and location. Verify that you have access to that directory.

The causes of this error include the likes of having incorrect CD / DVD drivers on your system, a damaged installation CD and a corrupted set of options inside Windows. The way to resolve the error is to basically ensure that your PC is able to correctly read all the files it requires to run the install, as well as letting your user account read the files it requires to run.

In order to get rid of the 1304 error, you first need to ensure that you are using an installation medium which is both working correctly and is not damaged. To do this, you should first ensure that the CD / DVD has no scratches, and that you have the correct version of the program you're trying to install. After that, you may wish to try alternative forms of installations, including the likes of downloads and USB sticks.

It may be a problem that you have some sort of damaged or corrupted drivers on your system, preventing your computer from correctly being able to read all the files / settings which allow your PC to run. You should click onto "Start > Control Panel > Device Manager" and then locate all the drivers which are damaged by seeking out the yellow exclamation icon that they will have. If you find any damaged / problematic files, you need to be able to right-click and then press "Update Driver" on that listing.

It's recommended that you also use a registry cleaner application to fix any of the damaged or corrupted settings which may be inside the "registry database". This is a central storage facility for all the files, settings and options which Windows computers will use to run, and is where all the files & settings for your software are kept to help your PC process all of its most important files. Despite the registry playing a vital role in every installation you may wish to perform on your PC, it's continually causing a a large number of problems with various issues being caused inside the registry. To fix this, you need to download a registry cleaner application, install it and then let it fix any of the problems that this part of your computer may have.

Program Not Responding and Freezing? - A Way to Improve Computer Performance

Program not responding and computer freezing can be attributed to devoid of CPU or RAM resources. If one program can not obtain sufficient resources, it will stops responding.

Resources are always inadequate. The capacity of your computer CPU and RAM is given. If the hardware resource is fairly distributed to all programs, they can run smoothly. But the problem is that mal distribution of resources always exists.

When some programs take up too much resources and a program can not acquire enough resources, this program will not be able to work properly and stop responding. And when there are too many programs running at the same time, the CPU or RAM Usage reach 100% and no more resources can be distributed to each program, computer will probably encounter freezing.

There are two ways to solve the program not responding and freezing problem. One is to upgrade computer hardware. Change existing CPU for one of higher Hz or dual CPU. And upgrade your RAM to 2GB, 4GB or higher one. Then the computer has enough resources for all software.

The second method is to optimize the system and make the resource distribution fair and proper. When Windows runs over time, it is stuffed with junk files and registry keys are missing or corrupted. Too many junk files will take up hard disk space and RAM. It is necessary to clean up them regularly to free disk space and save RAM.

Another factor is the registry. Registry is the database that stores settings and information for hardware, operating system software, and non-operating system software. The settings and information is packed in registry keys which are vital to Windows system, software and drivers. Windows system need access to the key value before alloting resources to programs. Furthermore, software and drivers also needs the data to run stably.

When some data is damaged, the programs and drivers will not be able to work and system can not allot resources fairly to each programs. That is why you frequently have program not responding, screen freezing, blue screen and blank screen of death.

Ten Reasons to Choose Laptop Rental

For many, the day inevitably begins with a laptop and ends with one, even though it is meant for personal use. It is needless to say that businesses thrive on laptops; Many schools and colleges have made the use of laptops mandatory for the students. While it is a universally accepted fact that the laptops are indicative, it is also true that the technology keeps changing making, adopting the newer technology difficult for those who own the laptops. In situations like this when the latest technology plays an important role mainly for students and the key decision makers in the organizations; laptop rental offers the latitude to make the most using the best available resources. While staying on the top with the newest devices present us with one reason, there are quite a few scenarios where renting a laptop provides a quick and more reasonable solution than any.

  1. Business Start-ups: When the cash flow is limited,
    • It can be directed to unavoidable things at hand like setting up the infrastructure, paying employees' salaries; leasing laptops is a creative approach towards cutting down the expenses.
    • It also helps in identifying the exact quantity of laptops that are required for the employees.
    • It makes the disposal of the equipment easier when not in use.
    • Investment capital is inactive by taking up this approach.
    • Service and maintenance of the laptops become easier as the rental company takes the responsibility.
  2. Temporary Offices: Renting laptops is ideal when temporary offices need to be set up especially when the companies are into hiring, or while under training sessions at different locations.
  3. Travel: As a part of increased security, many airlines require the travelers to check-in the laptops as well making them more vulnerable to thefts. It could be for stealing the confidential data residing on your laptop or for lifting the details like your bank account passwords; the reason could be any, but laptops are safe when hired at the destination during travel.
  4. Short-term projects: Hiring laptops for off shore assignments is the right way to go about it as it will reimburse the companies from bearing the expenses of buying the equipment for interim use.
  5. Students: This category of people has a niche use but only meant for a limited time period. It makes more sense to hire laptops for one, because it saves investment costs basically when they have to spend money towards paying tuition fee, buying reference material and making arrangements for lodging facilities etc. Depending on the university specifications, the laptops need to be acquired, which could be for art / designing or CAD, and they might not be of any use once the course is completed making renting the laptops ideal for students.
  6. Summer Camps: These are the instances when playing games is a key exercise and engaging the kids in various activities is but a for the program, but only for a narrow period. This is when hiring makes more sense.
  7. Events / Town halls / Meetings / Trade Shows / Exhibitions: Delegates from across the world may arrive to attend such occasions; where apart from the demand of the best use of technology, such meet-ups can be the place where you can project your brand image as well. Kiosks, for attendees' registration purposes, presentations, there is an adequate need of modern equipment in such occurrences.
  8. Schools / Colleges: Many online schools / colleges offer the laptops to students for enabling quality education. It makes more sense to take laptops on lease to meet the needs by rotating the laptops among the students after their use.
  9. Laptop Malfunctions: Whenever there is a system breakdown, it is difficult to sit still until it is fixed. The necessity does not wait even if you choose to halt for a while. Bringing laptops for rent is the best way to deal with the conditions.
  10. To Try Before You Buy: Any newly introduced product does not become an instant hit unless there is some feedback / reviews on it. In case you are looking to check it out before anyone else does, renting that item for immediate use can be a feasible arrangement.

If you are stuck in any of the mentioned fixes, laptop rental proposals to be a great way to address the situation at hand.

Overview of Cloud Computing

Cloud Computing , a computing paradigm is one of the easiest means of accessing and storing data over the Internet, instead of storing data in the computer hard drive. It is also recognized as a large pool of systems that helps us to remain connected with private or public networks and to provide dynamically scalable infrastructure for data, file storage and application.

With the launch of this technology, it clearly identified the storage of content, delivery, cost of computing, and application hosting. It has a potential of transforming a data center from a capital-intensive set up to a variable priced milieu.

According to one of the research industries - Forrester, defines Cloud Computing as a pool of abstracted, highly scalable, and managed compute infrastructure capable of hosting end customer applications and billed by consumption. Whereas, the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has developed the definition of Cloud Computing as a model for enabling convenient, on-demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources (eg, networks, servers, storage, applications , and services) that can be quickly provided and released with a minimal management effort or service provider interaction.

The characteristic of Cloud Computing consists of self-service, where a customer can request and manage their own computing resources. An access to the broad network permits service to be available for the private networks or the Internet. This technology provides a pool of shared resources, where the customer draws from a pool of computing resources, usually in a remote data center.

Cloud Computing service models

The services of Cloud Computing are clustered in three categories - Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) and Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS).

Software-as-a-Service (SaaS)

In this service model, the cloud based applications are offered to the customer, as a service on demand. It is a single instance of the service that runs on distant computers "in the cloud" which are owned and operated by others and gets connected to users' computers via the Internet and, typically, a web browser. Social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and Google are all examples of SaaS, although users able to access the services via any Internet enabled device.

Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS)

The platform-as-a-service (PaaS) model is a level above the Software-as-a-Service setup and provides hardware, network and operating system, so that a customer can design its own application and software. In order to meet the requirements of the applications such as scalability and manageability, a predefined combination of Operating System OS and application servers is offered by PaaS providers such as restricted J2EE, LAMP platform (Linux, Apache, MySql and PHP), etc., for example, at every stage of the process to develop, test and ultimately host their websites, web developers can use individual PaaS environments.

Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS)

Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) is a basic computing and storage capability, which is provided by a standardized service over the network. This model has made the work easier by pooling data center space, storage systems, networking equipment, servers, etc. together and making them available. In addition to it, the customer can develop and install its own operating systems, software and applications.

Cloud Computing deployment models

To make available and to deploy applications, enterprises can choose Cloud Computing on Public, Private or Hybrid clouds. In order to determine the right cloud path for each organization, Cloud Integrators play a vital role.

Public Cloud

By and large, services provided by a public cloud are offered over the Internet and are operated and owned by companies, which use it to offer swift access to reasonable computing resources to other organizations or individuals. Through this deployment model, consumers do not need to purchase supporting infrastructure, hardware or software, which is owned and managed by providers.

Private Cloud

In this deployment model, the infrastructure of the cloud is solely operated for a specific organization and is managed by the organization or a third party. While providing more control of resources and steering clear of multi-tenancy, private clouds exist to take advantage of the various cloud's efficiencies.

Hybrid Clouds

This deployment model of Cloud Computing coalesces both public and private cloud models. A service provider can utilize third party Cloud Providers in a full or partial manner amid hybrid clouds, and thus escalating the flexibility of computing.

Here, for the everyday computer user, this technology provides numerous options as well as to large and small businesses. And for organizations and individuals, Cloud Computing offers benefits, and the action moves to the interface flanked by multiple groups of service consumers and suppliers.
