It's been long enough since Sony launched PlayStation 3 in the market. Its popularity and success has not been hidden to anyone. However, it did not perform that well as it was expected. Still there are rumors in the gaming world that it has the hardware solutions that can operate on PlayStation 2 games. So can you play PS2 games on PS3?
Well, as per claims made by famous magazine for game buffs, yes we can. The new features of Sony PlayStation are technologically advanced to run the games of both versions. Beside this, major components like Emotion Engine, Graphic Synthesizer etc. of the earlier model are found in the present one giving the scope for the games to run on both of them!
However, it is found that not all PlayStation versions have similar structure. The consoles that contain backward compatibility are one with 20GB and 60GB hard drive (infamously called as "bundles"). If you have these models, then you can relive the excitement. But there is a catch. The emulation may not work with all the game-titles and accessories. The recent 80 GB model can run not only PS2 games but also PS1 games as it has a better emulator. The most incapable in this region is 40GB edition, which does not offer any compatibility for earlier games.
Today, we do not get 80GB console in the market. If you have any of these models then you can consider yourself lucky, if not - then the huge collection of your favorite games may be useless for the current console.
Realizing the consumer's reactions and for the sake of sales, Sony did not support the backward compatibility. Currently the PlayStation2 is selling well in the market. Their decision has disappointed millions. Although, it is still hoped that the company will rethink their strategy and in future the answer to "Can you play PS2 games on PS3" would be a positive one!
